Pakistani artist Shahzia Sikander specializes in Indian and Persian miniature painting, a traditional style that is both highly stylized and disciplined. Her work blends the Eastern focus on precision and methodology with a Western emphasis on creative, subjective expression. Sikander juxtaposes Hindu, Muslim, and Western iconography, entangling histories, meanings, and beliefs.

Underground, Marcel Dzama

Marcel Dzama is a young Canadian artist with a prominent exposure. His 2004 piece “Underground” consists of watercolours, ink drawings and root beer concentrate and it was exhibited at the MoMA in New York in 2007. This piece makes reference to the capture of Sadam Hussein, contrasting a long row of soldiers with the small hole in which he was hiding.
