Fashion Fringe, Covent Garden Awards 2010

As described on their web page, Fashion Fringe Awards came out from Colin McDowell MBE, fashion historian and Sunday Times Style Contributor. “He felt that in order to help British fashion regain its place as a powerhouse of cutting edge originality, young talent needed to be targeted to make a dynamic fringe event to coincide with London Fashion Week. He is even more convinced now that young designers are worthy of all the support we can give them”. And this is not a bad idea at all.  It is really tough for young designers to break through in the Fashion industry, and it is really praiseworthy that these ideas come out to reward the effort and creativity of those who fight to become a name in this world.

The three selected designers are given the advice, funds, workspace and technical assistance to work out 12 looks for their “Capsule” collection, to be shown at the event at Covent Garden. This edition´s winner was designer Corrie Nielsen.

This year, the iconic British designer John Galliano, creative director of French Maison Dior, joined the project for 2 seasons as “Chair”.
