Bailo/Rull

Studio Banana TV interviews Bailo-Rull, authors of a loop single family house in Igualada, Barcelona.

Godó House

This house has been designed for an allotment on a steep, urbanized hillside in the outskirts of Igualada. The main direction has an east-west orientation, with the pedestrian and vehicle entrance at the top (east).

The views are magnificent. Mobility is complicated on account of the relief. Both factors defined the conception of this house.

In effect, it may be regarded as an edified translation of a pedestrian route that descends in three stages, from the road level to the forested land in the unbuilt part of the lot. This route, made possible via the roof, allows full enjoyment of the views and the entrance to the house at one end, reached from the car park through the foyer. So we have a walk-on, sloping roof.

From the foyer to the main bedroom, located right below it, the privacy of the inhabitable areas increases in inverse proportion to the height. The living area is in the second section of this route, so it has the most impressive views.

Structurally, the entire house acts like a bent pipe in which the two ends are embedded in the ground, while the rest of the length is cantilevered. More specifically, it is a metal mesh or lattice pipe.

This mesh is designed to be clad externally with perfectly reflective stainless steel sheeting. The nature of the gaps produced in it contribute to the programmatic-constructive integration of the project as a whole.
